Motorcycle database was originally made in May 2016 with 43 columns, by a customer who needed both cars and bikes and we agreed to give him a discount for my manually-made biggest car database in exchange of a script that extract data from bikez.com and put in a CSV file, with permission to sell it on my website.
However, few months later I made my own script which surprisingly works faster than his one. I added more fields in August 2016 (62 columns) then looking at bike models with most fields filled up and found that they have even more fields missed by my customer, so I released final version in September 2016 with 71 columns. For example, August 2016 release include 0-100 kmph available for 1% of bikes, and after this I found that other bikes contain also 1/4 mile and 60-140 kmph in highest gear. There is possible that Bikez.com to have even more data fields but they are available for so small amount of bikes that does not add any value to my bike database.
Bikez.com is a fan-made website, thus less restrictive in terms of copyright. You are free to use this data on your own website. Already seen a website (motociclisti.ro) using same data from bikez.com, everything translated into Romanian.
I am researching car industry since 1999 and I gained high experience in cars, but not in bikes, I cannot tell if this database is complete for bikes sold in any specific country in the world, or what is the accuracy of fan-made websites, but with 500+ brands and 30000+ bike models I assume that this is the most comprehensive database with bikes produced worldwide, even if in the early years there are much lower number of bikes per year, compared with 2000s and 2010s. Bikez.com website originally covered 1970-present, but was expanded to 1930-present during summer 2016 and to 1894-present during autumn 2016.
Each calendar year a bike is manufactured is on a separate row in database. I know that some customers prefer start year – end year, but customizing this is too difficult. If you are from United States you may be familiarized with the fact that vehicles launched in 2020 are wear “Model Year 2021” and several people asked me when I am going to add 2021 models. Bikez database use calendar year, so you won’t see 2021 models until January 2021 appear on calendar.
