History

I created this database in 2016 to serve the numerous visitors from United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia that were coming on my website looking for a car database for their region.

Source of data: www.DriveArabia.com, I paid my programmer partner to make a standalone scraping application (exe file), the website was easy-to-scrap, having all cars accessible via links, but is weak in terms of amount of data. I told him to include 16 columns of technical specs. Scraping takes about 1h 30min.

Furthermore in late 2016 same programmer made an universal scraping application that can be used on many websites, but it was not producing data in the right format so I did not used it for this particular database.

In summer 2017 DriveArabia had a major redesign, making standalone scraping application useless. I used the universal scraper instead, configuring it to include all data from website, not just technical specs but also model overview, reviews, reliability, and image URL. Scraping also takes 1h 30min, but do not produce data in the right format, so now after each scraping need to manually manipulate data which takes few hours. In 2018 my programmer improved universal scraper so the manual work is no longer required, data comes in the right format from scraper, allowing me to update database as often customers wants.

DriveArabia do not have individual pages for each engine, but just for model. Model pages are identical for all years you select, all engines offered during whole model production period (not just the year you selected) are displayed in table format. Some models display 0-100 kph and top speed as ranges, this because the model have multiple body styles with different specifications, and the website do not show body styles separate.

At 2017 redesign DriveArabia (sadly) removed the field displaying all years a model was produced without changes, a must-have feature to distinguish where a generation ends and next one starts.

If you know other websites that I can scrap data from, with more detailed car specs, tell me!

  1. I am creating a ecommerce site on wordpress
Users should be able to look up lists under Make, Model, Year, Trim/Version to choose the particular vehicle
can I use your code displayed here? Region: MENA

    1. You should tell me if this database is usable for you. I guess that it is… but I want to create a database that sell to as many is people is possible, not just to you and to few more people who don’t need detailed technical specs or features.
This page is just 5 days old and you’re the first visitor!

  2. Well Teoalida, to tell you the truth, I’ve spent a couple of hours reading your website thoroughly and I really enjoyed your honesty and the database examples and the way you’ve organised it. I’m creating a classified website for cars and I believe your database would be of great help to me. I’ll not ask weird questions like the guys from India, my question is actually related to CARS 🙂
I don’t want to waste your precious time, all I need is to visit these two websites and tell me how much of CARs data you can scrape out of these two websites.

    The first website is :-
    https://dubai.dubizzle.com/motors/

    The 2nd website is :-
    https://iq.opensooq.com/en/cars

I think the 1st website is more interesting and I wonder how many fields of categories and sub-categories you can extract, how much it’ll cost, and whether you already have this database ready to download it or not, because I’ve seen you’ve complied ME database.

    Thank You

    I suggest the following

    1. Scrapping data from car classifieds websites is the biggest stupidity. These websites have one page per CAR SOLD, multiple listings for same model, and technical data added by owners (prone to errors). To make a quality car database we need a website with one page per MODEL and technical data provided by manufacturers, such as DriveArabia. May I know how do you want the database to look like and how do you intend to use it??

I moved your comment to Middle East page.

  3. Car repair, service, body shop, maintenance, restoration and registration services in Dubai focussed on Dubai Investment Park 1…

Can I add the database in my system? If available.

    Regards

    1. You asked same thing via chat and I recommended you best database but you don’t like it. Then what else do you like? I tried to email you and your email address is INVALID.

  6. hi, i was wondering if the “european” format is available for Middle East as well

for example a BMW 3-Series 320i exists in Brand/Range/EngineVersion in the German database as in BMW/3-Series/320i

In the Middle East database there is only Make/Model and i cannot see the submodel type from anywhere but only from Engine which is “2.0 I6 RWD” and doesn’t help me to recognice if it is 320i.

  7. I was about to make a purchase but when I saw how the admin replying to the customers in the comments I simply decided to not buying.

Comments are good if you want to praise me AFTER purchase / add info useful for future visitors. If you have questions PRIOR to purchase please contact me via live chat in lower-right corner of screen, email to my Gmail, Skype, etc, so I can reply quickly.
