Train Station 2

TrainStation2 is a logistics idle game developed in 2019 by Pixel Federation, you dispatch trains to collect raw materials, create products in factories and deliver them to destinations. Each delivery job takes from 30 seconds to 1 hour (most are 1h) so it is NOT a game that you need to play actively, but just few minutes per hour while doing your normal job and daily life.

I played for few months during 2026, writing this tutorial/walkthrough and an Excel data analysis including:

  • Levels: how much XP lead you to next level, at what level each raw material and product become available.
  • Buildings: population from level 1 to 150, upgrade costs (materials and city plans)
  • Warehouse: capacity, required population and coins for each upgrade.
  • Factories: list of products you can create, quantity, time and requirements.
  • Trains: cost to upgrade (parts and coins), according region.
  • Roundhouse: how many train parts you get by opening boxes, according region.
  • Ship trade: quantity of products required by ship captain, according level.
  • Story progression tree.
  • Story jobs detailed.

Train Station 2 walkthrough

Story progressionThe game has 14 regions: R1 Britain (tutorial), R2 Germany (opens at level 10), R3 USA (opens at level 40), next regions opens at level 100, 200 and so on.

Each region has 70-200+ story jobs that reward you with XP (to level up), keys (to buy trains), coins and train parts (to upgrade trains). Once you complete most story jobs from a region, side jobs appear that can be played infinitely for extra XP and keys.

Events open at level 12. They last 1 to 3 weeks, have similar story jobs and side jobs, rewarding (less) XP/job, event keys, event coins, extra train parts, city plans, unique buildings, but also higher-capacity trains.

Unions open at level 25. Up to 25 players cooperate for same jobs, rewarding you with train parts and other stuff but not XP.

A balanced game means spending 2-3 months in R2 Germany, 4-6 months in R3 USA, 6-9 months in each subsequent region. Some players speedrun through regions, other prefer slowplay to keep level as low is possible, stopping playing story jobs and events once reach R2 or R3 and playing only Union to avoid earning XP and increasing level.

Each region increase train parts rewards with 30% compared with previous region, but train upgrade costs increase about 4-5x between R1 and R2, same between R2 and R3. Region 4 onward upgrade costs are approximately proportional to rewards, but increasing number of products and quantities at event job makes game HARDER without any real benefits.

Each train can be used only in the region you were at the time you bought or won it. Events and Unions allow using trains from last 2 regions. Some jobs require specific train types (steam, diesel, electric) and category.

Story progressionTutorial

When you create a new account you are taken to tutorial, which takes 20 minutes to complete. At end of tutorial you have:

  • Level 4, 25/72 XP,
  • 85 keys, 13 gems, 130 coins
  • 50 common train parts, 100 rare train parts.
  • 8 completed jobs, 3 unique trains (1 Epic, 1 Rare, 1 Common).
  • A warehouse with 500 capacity for raw materials/products.
  • 3 dispatchers.

Now you can

  • Do the two London jobs so you can unlock a source of coins (don’t forget to send a train every 4h to collect coins).
  • Stockpile 300 coal and 100 Iron Ore to produce 400 Steel (takes 50 minutes) required to buy 4th dispatcher.
  • Look in shop and get two FREE boxes with train parts from the shop every 4h. Daily offers include a FREE predefined number of train parts of one type, exchange coins for a box with random gear types or a specific gear type.
  • Exchange some coins to train parts (avoid doing this in later regions as the exchange rate increases and you want to save coins for trains and warehouse upgrades).
  • Look in the train depot and upgrade trains as much you can.
  • Watch your station for clickable whistles spawning on people, watch region map for similar clickable items spawning on vehicles. Most clickable items give you materials, keys, train parts, but every 2h you have chance to get 1 gem or 60 coins.
  • Take a break (sleep?) and return next day to repeat process of collecting coins from London and free train parts boxes from shop.
  • At level 7 you can upgrade buildings around Your Station (strangely, you get notification that you can upgrade buildings at level 8, at level 9 you are told to place an additional building, Small Shops costing 1 coin).
  • Complete remaining story jobs in Region 1 Britain, the first jobs are 30 seconds then you get “normal” jobs taking 30 min and 1 hour in which you can go back to your real life. Some players quit game at this stage, considering it BORING. One job will reward you a Legendary train. Completing all jobs takes about 6 hours (excluding Steel Factory) and will reward you with 1375 keys in total. Steel Factory require 1h deliveries of 250 Coal using Epic train (you likely have a single Epic train, its capacity determine how many deliveries you need to complete).
  • In Region 1 Britain you can only buy standard containers (100 keys, 2% chance of Legendary train), don’t waste keys on them!
  • At level 10 you unlock Region 2 Germany, stamps, advanced containers (200 keys, 5% chance of Legendary train). Buy max 3 advanced containers, don’t waste keys hoping for a Legendary train (you can earn them from events). Save keys for buying “Region 1 Container” when is available in daily offers (every few days).
  • At level 10, 3 side jobs will spawn in Britain. Don’t waste time on them.
  • At level 11 you get temporary dispatcher for 7 days and Pixel parts box in shop, a free Vizsla Statue (building with starting level 50, 414 population) which allow you to upgrade warehouse to 1100. You also unlock Ship Trade (the most important feature of the game) and Lucky Wheel which you can spin 4 times/day to earn random materials, keys, gems, etc. Every 12 spins (3 days) you are rewarded with a mega box of train parts.
  • At level 12 you unlock Events to earn higher-capacity trains.
  • At level 15 you unlock Passenger Station where you can increase coin revenue and dispatch trains to all cities with one click.
  • At level 25 you unlock Union, where up to 25 players cooperate to fulfill jobs, to earn U coins, bucks, and extra rewards from challenges.
  • At level 30 you unlock Innovation Center, where you can spend bucks on gems to temporarily boost train capacity, increase warehouse capacity, reduce factory production time to half, etc.
  • Completing all Germany jobs takes about 2 weeks (if played 8h/day) and reward you with 1757 keys and 20170 XP that raise you to level 35. Note: you DON’T NEED to complete 100% all story jobs to progress through game.
  • Region 3 USA unlock at level 40, Region 4 France unlock at level 100. Subsequent regions unlock at level 200, 300 … 1200. Going up in level also increase quantities required at ship trade and event jobs. Try to upgrade warehouse to at least 4000 before reaching level 40, and 8000 before reaching level 100.
  • Logistics Center unlock at level 45, it allow you to collect raw materials from previous regions without a dispatcher, just need to reserve a train that cannot be used anywhere else.
  • Union and Events require trains only from current and previous regions, so once you are in region 3 you can start selling all duplicates from region 1 (except Legendary trains which you may want to have few in each region, for Logistic Center).

Slow play strategies

  • At level 5 you get first event: do 7 sets of random tasks (upgrade a train, collect resources, complete a job, etc). Once a set is completed, you need to wait 24h for next set of tasks. If you complete 7 sets of tasks in max 10 days, you win a Legendary train named Train of Fortune. If you don’t rush completing R1 Britain jobs unless you have a task to complete a job, you can win Train of Fortune before reaching level 10 and move to R2 Germany.
  • At level 10 when you open Germany, complete ONLY jobs required to unlock raw materials (wood, coal), making 11% completed, Level 11 with 330/349 (or Level 12 with 79/374 if you did last 2 jobs of Elizabeth Tower in Britain). Is recommended also to unlock coin city (Berlin), making 18% completed, Level 13 with 207/402 (or 297/402).
  • (Optionally) unlock also the Timber factory so you can get Timber faster than via Sawmill, which will give you 36% completion and level 17 with 525/532 XP (or Level 18 with 83/569 if you did last 2 jobs of Elizabeth Tower in Britain).
  • Don’t complete remaining story jobs, unless you want to earn XP, increase level quickly and make gameplay HARDER.
  • Since 2025 the game introduced option to reduce XP rewards with -90% for 500 gems for major events (lasting 3 weeks) and 150 gems for midi events (lasting 1 week). The game round number upwards, 11 XP become 2 XP.
  • You can theoretically stop doing story jobs once you unlock Germany raw materials and play only major events. If you have enough gems for -90% XP, each major event raise you with only 1 level (or less), you can buy dozens high-capacity event trains and will take 1 year to reach level 25 to join an Union.
  • Union jobs does not reward XP, you can stop playing events too and stay at level 25 forever while having fun playing only Union.

Upgrading buildingsBuilding upgrades: 4/5 building strategy

  • Your station opens at level 4 and include 8 buildings, each level 1 with 5 population. First 4 upgrades require only materials, takes 30 seconds – 3 minutes and add 1 population. Upgrade to level 6 and beyond require plans and increase population added per update. Final upgrade is to level 150 and population will be 3714.
  • Upgrading one building from level 1 to 150 require 1678 plans, the main source of plans is the Ship Trade. The ship must be filled with 3 products in a quantity based on your level. Once you click the ship, you have 4h limit to fill it to be rewarded with 60 plans, once filled, the next ship arrive in 16 hours.
  • If you do 1 ship trade/day, you can max one building per 4 weeks. 13 buildings in one year × 3714 = 48282 city population, allowing warehouse upgrade to 12500. With a good timing you can do 3 ship trades per 2 days, additional plans can be won from gifts and challenges.
  • Up to 4 buildings have option to upgrade, if you upgrade one building, option to upgrade appears on another one, usually lowest-level building, with a waiting time. Try removing buildings from map until only the 4 highest-level buildings remain, so when you upgrade one, same building get a new upgrade option. Adding a 5th building allow you to click Replace at its upgrade option, so upgrade option reappears on another building (on the one you just updated previously) bypassing waiting time.
  • If you are a slowplayer and earn coins only from London and Berlin, you may run out of coins when warehouse reach 12000-14000. You will eventually need to unlock USA for a third source of coins.

Events

At level 12 you unlock events. Each month the game offers one major event (3 weeks) and mini/midi events (3-7 days) between major events.

Major events offer 2 trains with normal capacity, 4 high-capacity trains that can be bought with event keys, 1 legendary for event coins, 1 train for premium pass, and 2 other trains for real money. All them wear an event badge and some event jobs require event-badged trains.

Each major event have a distinctive map and story jobs similar with regions, 1 or 2 raw materials with 15-min collection time, and a factory where you create other products. For real money you can buy “premium pass” that lower event factory production time to half and give you access to a factory that give you one ready-made product with 3-minute collection time.

Most event job requirements are random according your level. https://trainstation-2-players-guide.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Events is valid only for wiki editor. See 3 screenshots from Train Yard event, comparing requirements of level 12, 25, 115.

Level 12 Level 25 Level 115

Event story jobs reward you with about 6000 keys, enough to buy legendary train and one more train, you must do side jobs too if you want to buy all event trains, the remaining keys you are advised to spend on legendary parts, then epic parts.

Playing 8 hours/day at level 20-30 allow you to reach 100% completion of event story jobs in a week, at level 100-200 it will take 2 weeks, at higher levels you will not be able to finish event in time unless you play 24/7 or use boosts.

Unions

At level 25 you can create or join an union, where up to 25 players cooperate to fulfill jobs, to earn U coins, bucks, and extra rewards from challenges.

Few hundreds bucks are rewarded weekly based on union position in leagues.

U coins are rewarded based on your activity in union.

Each 3-month season, players from TOP 50 unions are rewarded with an 100-capacity Legendary train.

At start you have 3 Union dispatchers (distinct from region/event dispatchers) and first thing you should do after joining an union is to buy extra union dispatchers, which cost 100, 200, 500, 1500, 3000, 7000 bucks (total 12300 bucks that can be earned in about 3-4 months). You can have 9 permanent Union dispatchers, additional dispatchers can be bought from season pass and with gems.

U coins can buy parts boxes or Union containers, with 75% chance of common train, sell duplicates to get parts. This is easy way to get common parts.

About me

Lots of mobile games are advertised on Facebook “play for free” and I clicked few of them, usually after few minutes/hours I get offers to pay real money for extra items in games.

Hero-Wars is the most advertised game, misleading advertisements showing a simple puzzle, when actual game is complete bullshit. You build a team of 5 fighters and battle against other teams, you don’t actually aim or shoot like in Counter-Strike or Quake games, you only select opponent and watch them shooting each other automatically for 1 minute, no skill or strategy is needed as the winner is decided mathematically (repeating battle have same results). You get a lot of popups to pay real money to make your fighters stronger. You can play for free but only 5 battles per day.

How I found TrainStation2 (and played wrong strategy)

On 21 February 2026 I saw a sponsored post on Facebook and I started playing. Clicking random without intention to play long term, curious how much I can play without paying real money. While I got offers to pay real money for coins, gems and extra trains, the free play is unlimited. It became the ONLY game I enjoyed (somewhat) within last 10 years.

Many things are counter-intuitive, messages showing that new products and dispatchers are available at level # gave me wrong impression that I should reach highest level as fast I can. In 2 days I finished Britain and reached level 10, unlocking Germany.

2 weeks later I got stuck at level 35, completing 82% of Germany story jobs (except the ones requiring Legendary train). Highest-capacity train in Germany was 20 Epic. The side jobs had a misleading message “You’ll need a Common train for this. I saw some containers in the shop” (after my complaint they replaced message with “Your trains are not strong enough for this job“). I almost stopped playing, logging in only once per day for daily reward. ChatGPT responses mislead me further. I thought that I reached the end of free-to-play game. WRONG!

Actually the side jobs required trains with certain minimum capacity, instead of buying extra train containers, I should have looked in shop every 4h to open free boxes with train parts and upgrade my trains.

Even if I joined a random union once reached level 25, I did not paid attention to Union because it does not give XP to level up.

An event started (European Rail Trip) where I earned extra XP and train parts that allowed me to upgrade trains and do few side jobs, reaching level 40 and unlocking USA Region. In 3 weeks I did all USA story jobs but I only reached level 71. The side jobs required delivering far more products than story jobs and level progression became extremely slow and BORING.

I was nearly to quit game, but in April 2026 when my level was ~80 I checked Union player list and seen some players having lower level but higher number of trains and completed jobs compared with me. I talked for the first time with other players in Union chat and someone told me that I should not rush to level up.

Then I found Wiki guide trainstation-2-players-guide.fandom.com, Facebook and Reddit posts from other players, and developer’s Discord server where I could ask for help, realizing that the goal of the game is NOT to raise level as fast you can. Many beginners did same mistake like mine, rushed to level up, but after few days they realized mistake and switched to slow play. Many long-term players focus primarily Unions and secondarily Events, ignoring story jobs, to keep level as low is possible, have fewer product variety and cheaper train upgrades.

They advised me to upgrade buildings and warehouse, which required city plans, which could be obtained via ship trade, but it required often 312 Steel and 312 Iron powder which took an hour to produce and had to throw away other products to make space in the warehouse which had capacity 1100 after adding Vizsla Statue which have a base level of 50.

Meantime I learned to get free parts boxes from shop every 4 hours, but the cost to upgrade USA trains was about 4x higher than Germany trains, the increased number of products and warehouse was a huge bottleneck (warehouse could be fixed by focusing on building upgrades), but I could not go level down.

I (re)started playing on a second account (correct strategy)

So, once I understood goal and game mechanics, I started over with a new account on 26 April 2026. At same time I started using Excel to analyze most important data from the game, and started writing this walkthrough.

After 1 day I reached level 10 and unlocked Germany, when I focused on ship trade to upgrade buildings and warehouse.

At levels 11-13 there are only 5 products that ship captain require, each in quantities up to 70 (plus 3 raw materials required for building upgrades), so I could prepare them in advance and deliver immediately when the ship arrived (every 16 hours) allowing me to do 3 deliveries in 2 days and earn enough city plans to upgrade a single building (Vizsla Statue) from level 50 to 150 (3714 population) in about 16 days, upgrading warehouse to 2100 capacity. I continued to upgrade the rest of buildings.

Then I completed 36% of Germany story progression, doing only the jobs required to unlock Berlin and Timber factory, reaching level 18, then played 2 major events, reaching level 25 in 2 months to join an Union.

Having 2 buildings maxed to 3714 population, 4000 warehouse and few trains upgraded to maximum capacity, it helped me helped me scoring 300 SP/day since 1st day I joined an Union.

I was shocked to find that most of top players are over 65 years old, jobless/retired, some suffering from insomnia, playing game nearly 24/7 since the game was launched in 2019 and winning an 100-Legendary train every season since Unions were launched in 2022.

Personally I found Union play boring, repetitive, time consuming and having negative effects to my real life/job, so I quit before playing a whole 84-day season, limiting my gameplay to 1 login/day for ship trade. How long… we don’t know!

Note: you can play 2 accounts at same time on PC using 2 browsers (or 1 browser with 2 user profiles). Not possible on mobile phones.
