Year-Make-Model changelog

Year Make Model was my FIRST car database done at a customer’s request. Started on 5 February 2013 for an American who did not liked the original Car Models List and asked me to recompile the Excel database by multiplying model rows for each Model Year, for vehicles sold in United States 1990-2013.

Later I noticed that this format, weird for me as European, is the typical format for US & Canada car market, useful to dump in MySQL database, so I decided to expand coverage to WW2, and it was purchased by dozens of other customers (primarily web developers).

Update history

5408 domestic (1945-2013) + 3686 imported (1990-2013 but some imported models have unknown years). First edition in March 2013.
5408 domestic + 3820 imported models, 984 KB file, as April 2013. Imports about 80% complete for 1980s, 10% for 1970s.
5408 domestic + 4176 imported models from 55 makes, as May 2013. Corrected with Edmunds, unknown years eliminated, imports about 90% complete for 1980s and 50% complete for 1970s.
5533 domestic + 4243 imported models from 59 makes, as June 2013. Fixed foreign cars rebadged under US brands, and which do not have separate Wikipedia page, were missing from the original Car Models List Worldwide. For example Mitsubishi Chariot sold as Dodge / Plymouth Colt Vista (not a big deal, because the Colt was included), however Colt Vista have nothing related with Colt, in my opinions should be included separately.

5632 domestic + 4460 imported models, from 60 makes, 1086 KB file, as July 2013. Job done, BETA label removed!
5626 domestic + 4493 imported models, from 62 makes, as September 2013. No major update, just fixed few errors and added Daihatsu and Zastava, two makes sold in US so poorly that most do not even know that they WERE imported!
5975 domestic + 4519 imported models, from 65 makes, 1130 KB, as November 2013. Major additions to 1940s-1960s, including Hudson and Nash.
5975 domestic + 4543 imported models, from 66 makes, 1132 KB, as February 2014 (+18 models in 3 months).

Added some missing domestic cars, mostly captive imports with no dedicated page on Wikipedia, thanks to the Year-Make-Model-Trim-Specs database that I re-launched for sale, also added a lot of imported cars (pre-1980) which were previously omitted due to lack of accurate info regarding what model years they were sold. But as most customers said, better have non-existent cars than missing cars.
6468 domestic + 7257 imported models, from 80 makes, as May 2016, added a lot of European imports, thanks to NadaGuides.com (new makes added: Austin, Austin-Healey, Citroën, ISO, Jensen, MG, Morris, NSU, Riley, Rover, Triumph).

6548 domestic + 7475 imported models, from 80 makes, 1564 KB, main 2017 update done in June 2016.
6556 domestic + 7481 imported models, from 80 makes, 1566 KB, as December 2016, end-year corrections, removed several 2017 models that were no longer launched, including the 5 Scion models as the make was discontinued in August 2016, added several missing models.
6613 domestic + 8206 imported models, from 90 makes, as May 2017, added more European imports sourced from www.nadaguides.com (new makes added: AC, Alvis, Bristol, Hillman, Lada, Morgan, Panther, Spyker, Tatra), as well as one US brand: DeSoto.

6708 domestic + 8472 imported models, from 90 makes, added all “2018 models” in June 2017, also split up on separate rows certain models and added RAM separate from Dodge.

6759 domestic + 8478 imported models, from 90 makes, 1700 KB, end-year corrections, removed several 2018 models that were no longer launched, added several missing models.

Dilemma

The original customer told me to move platform codes to a separate column, later I realized that americans do not use platform code in model naming, and I am the only one selling a database containing this info. Some of my subsequent customers deleted the platform code column causing few duplicates in year-make-model columns. Would be better if… for example 1999 BMW 3-Series E36 / E46 (1 row for overlapping year) instead of 1999 BMW 3-Series E46 / 1999 BMW 3-Series E46 (two rows, one for each model platform)?
